What a night!Updated Sunday July 24, 2016 by Lehigh Valley MSBL.
Top 18 team knocks off Black & Blue 4-3 in 9th!
The Top 18 Division All-Stars which included the Blue Jays, Cobras, Royals, Pirates, Hurricanes and Crush came to play on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park vs the Tri-County Black & Blue Division.
The lights came on and so did the talent at 7pm. The 18 All-Stars jumped out quickly in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead 2-0. After that it was all pitching and defense that dominated the game into the 6th inning. "I really liked the pitching and catching match up's for this game" says President Ron Cahill. "These players took their opportunity very seriously. You could tell as this game played out that both sides really wanted to win"
In the top of the sixth, the Black & Blue put together an offensive surge getting key base hits with 2 outs that lead to a go ahead three run inning. That score would hold into the 9th inning as both teams continued solid pitching performances and strong defense.
As the 9th inning started the score was 3-2 in favor of the Black & Blue. That's when the 18 Division started to work men on base and take advantage of a couple of wild pitches. The 18 Division scored the tying run and bunted in the go ahead run with a tremendous roar from the crowd to end the game.
The 18 Team poured onto the field and celebrated an amazing come from behind 9thinning win. "To see the players and the crowd with that level of excitement was something special. You want every All-Star Game to be played like this game, but this was a once in a lifetime game" says Cahill.
Congratulations to Coach Jorge Rodriquez, Assistants Doug Brill, Rich Duplaga and Kris Kline and both teams for an outstanding game and sportsmanship.
