Lehigh Valley MSBL All-Stars Win the 2014 Liberty Bell Classic 30+ Division

Despite the unpredictable, ever-changing schedule that came with the rain-delayed weekend, a short-handed team of only 11 LVMSBL players joined forces to outlast teams from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania to win the 2014 Liberty Bell Classic 30+ Division.

After a full season of battling one another on the field, players from Notre Dame, Widow Tavern Indians, Iron Pigs and Diamondbacks went from competitors to teammates and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The team included Chris Wright and Mike Pychinka (Notre Dame), Mike Wenner and Brad Eck (Iron Pigs), Kyle Ruff, Josh Mohlmann, Rick Buss, Ross Dartouzos and Mike Mattes (Widow Tavern Indians), Will Flores (Diamondbacks) and Mike Bracco (Devil Rays).

Highlights included Will Flores earning two wins in back-to-back games on Saturday with the help of Mike Wenner who played stellar defense at shortstop; Mike Mattes striking out 10 Chester Country Cobras in only 6 innings when we were forced to face the defending tournament champions for the second time in two days; and Kyle Ruff, who after catching three games, took the mound and threw a complete game to bring home the championship.

As a team, the Lehigh Valley All Stars ripped the cover off the ball all weekend, outscoring their opponents 28-11 in four games despite facing "aces" brought in by other teams. Mike Bracco led the way in the lead off position, Mike Wenner had multiple RBI's in the 2-hole, Chris Wright went 8-14 on the weekend in the 3-spot and Kyle Ruff crushed the ball at clean-up. Brad Eck contributed multiple line drives, Mike Pychinka was red-hot on Saturday, Josh Mohlmann smoked the ball to the opposite field all weekend, and Rick Buss, Will Flores and Ross Dartouzos seemed to always be on base when the line-up turned over.

All in all, despite only having 10 guys for each game, every player filled a key role and it was a true team effort. New friendships were formed and the Lehigh Valley All-Stars were proud to represent the Lehigh Valley MSBL.Ch

Congratulations to the players of the Lehigh Valley MSBL. You represent our league and the fierce competition that exist in our league. I truly believe nobody can beat us!
